The Tutor System
At King’s, Housemasters and Housemistresses are supported by the Tutor System, which has existed since 1886. The College is the same.
All academic staff have a Tutor Group consisting of 6-10 students drawn from all year groups and courses within the College.
Alongside undertaking an evening duty in the College, the Tutor meets their Tutor Group formally once a week. The Tutor discusses academic progress with his/her Tutees, using data from the College’s own grading and reporting system, identifying targets and areas of development, as well as encouraging, supporting and rewarding them.
The Tutors quickly get to know their tutees well, taking them out to supper as a group and supporting their co-curricular programme.
